For a long time now the judiciary workers in some states in Nigeria have been on an indefinite strike. While the reason for this strike is not the business of this post, I only want to point out that one of the implications of the strike is that there is total paralysis of activity in all the courts in those states. Also, as a result of the strike people cannot do any transaction at the registries of these courts.
With this industrial action on in those states, people cannot also do affidavits.Do not underestimate the importance of affidavits. Some administrative processes cannot go on without sworn affidavits being presented. There are certain facts that you must state on oath before the commissioner for oaths of a state before those facts can be documented in your record either at your place of work or at a public institution you are patronising. Does it now mean that if the all the courts and their registries are closed, people cannot do their affidavits?
THE TIP
If you cannot get access to the courts registries in Nigeria, you can opt for a notary public to swear to an affidavit before him.You can walk into the office of any lawyer who is a notary public to sign and seal your affidavit for you for a token amount.
Note, however, that it is not all lawyers that are notaries public in Nigeria. There are criteria that a lawyer must meet to become a notary public. There are notaries public in prominent towns in Nigeria.I do hope you find this tip useful.
See you again tomorrow.
Thank you.
