YOU ARE WELCOME TO MY WEBLOG TODAY!

Do you know that some of our African traditional practices as Nigerians still survive till today even in the face of criminal prohibition? In other words I mean there are certain acts which we still do till today as part of our tradition but which the law of the land regards as criminal acts.
Section 246 of the Criminal Code Act, Chapter 77, Laws of the Federation of the Federal Republic of Nigeria provides and I quote:
' Any person, who without the consent of the President or the Governor or attempts to bury any corpse in any house, building or premises, yard, garden, compound, or within a hundred yards of any dwelling-house, or in any open space situated within a township, is guilty of a misdemeanour, and is liable to imprisonment for six months.'

We all know that people bury corpses even in houses without any permission from the President or the Governor. Some tribes even believe that to bury the corpse of a beloved one  too far away from his house is an act of wickedness towards the dead.In fact, their cultures do not even approve of this in the first instance. In the olden days, among some African tribes, it was the corpses of  persons who had been banished from their towns either for the reason of being infected  with  contagious diseases or criminal offences that were buried in the bush.

Watch out for more of this in the subsequent days.Have a blessed day!
