YOUR RIGHT ENDS WHERE ANOTHER MAN'S RIGHT BEGINS

Good afternoon, friends.
A young lady was having her bath one cool Monday morning in the common bathroom she shared with other occupants in a winged bungalow colloquially referred to as 'Face me, I face you'.In the course of the bath, her male neighbour,pretending not to be aware that somebody was in the bathroom, suddenly opened the door.Although the young man instantly apologised and shut the door back, this lady determined to teach him a lesson he would never forget in his life for seeing her nakedness.

About twenty minutes later, this man heard a gentle knock on his door.It was this same lady that was at the door knocking.As the guy opened the door,the next thing he saw was the lady carrying a bowl of hot water.Before he could utter a word,she had thrown the water onto his face.He fell down on the spot and was shouting for help.

THE LEGAL PERSPECTIVE
The lady actually had a right to the dignity of her person which was violated by her neighbour intruding into the bathroom when she was bathing.This right is guaranteed in section 34 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.The right,however, terminated when the lady took the law into her hands by resorting to self help in the scenario such that the table then turned against her as she had committed an act of criminal assault by inflicting bodily injuries on her neighbour.

It is pertinent to note that the legal implication of the injury inflicted on the guy in the circumstances outweighed that of the violation of the lady's right.While that act of inflicting injury on him is criminal, the act of violating her right to the dignity of her person in the the scenario can only be redressed in civil proceedings which only leads to the award of damages for the plaintiff at the end of the day.

From the above, the lesson for you my reader is to learn to to man your emotions.Sometimes, there is a very thin line between guilt and innocence.
